About the brand

Where we come from and how we work.

Corporal Wojtek is apparel built around a single story: a Syrian brown bear, bought in 1942 in Hamadan from a Persian boy by soldiers of the 22nd Artillery Supply Company, who marched with the Polish II Corps through Iran, Iraq, Palestine and Egypt all the way to Monte Cassino.

How we work

So that he could sail to Italy with the company, he was formally enlisted — given a service number, a pay book and a rank. At Monte Cassino he carried crates of ammunition; the company put him on its emblem. After the war he lived at Edinburgh Zoo, where his old comrades visited him until 1963.

We do not treat this as a novelty. Every print and every embroidery refers to a specific place or date on that route, and the labels explain what it means — so that anyone who asks "what bear is that?" gets an answer.
